01. About
The primary objective of most marketing is to drive growth. The drive for growth can head in many directions and with just as many purposes. I believe that marketing is a support service. What I do is be everyone’s right-hand man. The highest and best use of marketing is to lead generation and sales. It is also effective in realizing specific business goals (internal or external). Those may include building brand or product awareness, educating audiences about the value propositions at stake, resolving issues or challenges in the market or within a company, or creating comfort and buy-in for what is being offered. However marketing is applied, it requires cross-platform consistency, production efficiency, high quality execution, and a clear focus on KPIs to determine its efficacy.
Similarly, communications is a broad and overlapping term with marketing. It tends to extend more to internal messaging and management or to external public relations.
02. In Action
Both marketing and communications are critical to business development. I have been deeply involved in development objectives for organizations of many scopes and sizes, and in many diverse markets. C-suite executives draw on my experience, insight, and expertise in their efforts to grow their companies or to realize specific objectives within them.
I have been headhunted to create marketing departments, consulted on business plans for startups, tasked with training customer service reps, created project management solutions and internal communications efficiency systems, and brought in to develop entire divisions of companies that were largely about education and relationship-building. First and foremost, I am a marketing and communications director. It is the Venn overlap of these skills with business development goals that have created these other opportunities to serve my clients.
Jonathan and his team met and exceeded our needs and expectations. We initially came to them to produce our videos. Early on, we realized that not only could they do a great job with those, but how much more they could bring to the table in terms of branding and marketing. Their creative and strategic talents transformed our company and gave us the vision and content we needed to be outwardly successful.
